About Tiger Mask
Tiger Mask is pro-wrestling anime across three eras: Naoto Date, the heel who fights for orphans, in the 1969 original (105 episodes); a new Tiger Mask in the 1981 sequel; and Tiger Mask W (2016) with twin successors tied to New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Each series reboots the mask, so there is no continuity to track: the 1969 show is the landmark, the 1981 sequel continues its spirit, and W is a modern celebration full of real wrestlers. Release order shows the animation and the sport evolving together. The manga by Ikki Kajiwara underpins the first two; W is anime-original with NJPW cooperation.
Good to know
The 1969 series is long and repetitive by modern standards, so sampling its famous arcs is acceptable: the Mr. X confrontations are the core. Tiger Mask II assumes affection for the original but tells its own story. W's real-wrestler cameos (Okada, Tanahashi and others) are the draw for wrestling fans, while anime viewers get a complete rookie story. No fourth series has been announced.
