About Violet Evergarden
Violet Evergarden follows a former child soldier learning to work as an Auto Memory Doll, ghostwriting letters for clients while searching for the meaning of her major's last words to her. The 13-episode TV series aired January to April 2018 from Kyoto Animation. The side-story film Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll followed in September 2019, and the finale film Violet Evergarden: The Movie closed the story in September 2020.
The two films slot cleanly after the series. Eternity tells standalone client stories with Violet supporting, while the 2020 movie resolves her search and her future. Author Kana Akatsuki's light novels ended with the source material, and no new anime has been announced.
Good to know
Watch the series first, then the two films in release order. The 2018 special episode, Violet Evergarden: Extra Episode, fits between episodes four and five as an opera-house side story and can be watched there or after the series. Eternity works any time after the series, but the 2020 movie must come last since it ends Violet's arc directly.
