About Adventure Time

The original series ran ten seasons and 283 episodes from April 5, 2010 to September 3, 2018, ending with the hourlong Come Along with Me. Finn and Jake's story closes there, and the spinoffs that follow are set in the same world without needing to continue it.

Adventure Time: Distant Lands collects four hourlong specials that ran from June 2020 to September 2021, and Fionna and Cake follows with two ten episode seasons that treat Finn and Jake as the villains of their own origin story. Side Quests, developed by Nate Cash and produced by Cartoon Network Studios, goes back to the early seasons and follows young Finn and Jake as the two of them learn to work together.

Side Quests was deliberately built lighter than the later franchise projects. Its episodes are closer to the early seasons of the original, with self-contained stories about odd jobs, cloud people and the Land of Ooo, rather than the long serialized arcs of Fionna and Cake.

Good to know

Release order is the whole guide here. The main series is a completed story and the specials and spinoffs are set before, beside or after it without needing to interrupt it.

Side Quests is the one to watch if you want the tone of the original run back. Season 1 arrived on Disney Plus and Hulu on June 29, 2026 and rolled out internationally on Cartoon Network and HBO Max from October 5, 2026. Season 2 followed with all twenty episodes dropping at once on October 2, 2026, which brings the show to forty episodes across two seasons.

Fionna and Cake is the one worth skipping on a first pass, since it retells the original from the other side and works better after you have seen where Finn and Jake end up.
