About Babar
Babar is Jean de Brunhoff's elephant king saga, animated by Nelvana since 1989 on CBC, HBO and YTV. The original series ran six seasons from January 1989 with Babar telling his children how he lost his mother, met the Old Lady and built Celesteville with Celeste. Babar: The Movie from July 1989 plays as a season one finale against Rataxes.
Babar: King of the Elephants from 1999 retells the first four books as a standalone origin. Babar and the Adventures of Badou ran from 2010 to 2015 on YTV and Disney Junior, following grandson Badou years later. The books span decades but the screen stories stay gentle and episodic.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for Babar worth listing, since release order follows Babar from calf to king to grandfather without detours. Watch the original series first for the hunter, city and Rataxes rules, then either film, then Badou last. The 1999 film remakes the origin rather than continuing it, so treat it as an alternate start rather than a sequel.
