About Popples
Popples began as toys that fold from balls to bears, with a live Shelley Duvall pilot then a cartoon from September 1986 to 1987 for 23 half hours. The plot hid Popples from adults while kids cleaned rooms. Saban and Netflix rebooted the line with new pals Bubbles, Sunny, Lulu, Izzy and Yikes, airing 2015 to 2016 across three seasons and 52 episodes in Popplopolis.
The 1986 run and the 2015 run use the same pop names but different casts and towns, so they play as separate versions rather than sequel and original. The Netflix run kept the help that backfires gag from the 1980s while adding Treepod home base beats.
Good to know
Watch either version first, since continuity resets between 1987 and 2015. For full history, start with the 1986 run for the hiding gag, then the Netflix run for Popplopolis. The 2015 series lists as one season in some guides but rolled out in three drops, so episode counts vary by source while the 52 episode total holds.
