About Star Trek: The Animated Series
Gene Roddenberry's animated Star Trek aired Saturday mornings on NBC under Filmation, continuing the Enterprise crew with nearly the full original cast. Season 1 ran 16 episodes from September 8, 1973 to January 12, 1974, directed by Hal Sutherland, and Season 2 added 6 episodes from September 7 to October 12, 1974 under Bill Reed. Stories like Yesteryear and More Tribbles, More Troubles picked up threads the live show left hanging.
The 22 episodes are episodic, so air order is the guide. Watch after at least the key Original Series episodes, since the cartoon assumes that crew dynamic. Season 1 first, then the short Season 2.
Good to know
This guide covers only the 1973 to 1974 Filmation animated series, not live action Trek, which has its own guide at star-trek-watch-order.json. There is no separate chronological order worth listing: the 22 episodes are standalone missions, so release order is the watch order. The show won the 1975 daytime Emmy for children's series, a first for Star Trek. Start with Season 1's Beyond the Farthest Star.
