About Underdog
Underdog began with Total Television in 1964 about Shoeshine Boy turning hero with his rhyming couplets against Simon Bar Sinister. The show ran 124 episodes to 1973 with Sweet Polly often needing rescue and the four-part arcs stacking. The 2007 live-action film from Disney retells the origin with Jason Lee voicing the beagle.
Each version resets the Capitol City rescues with no shared timeline, so the series and the film both start clean. No new series has been announced, leaving the film as the modern telling rather than a series chapter.
Good to know
Start with the 1964 series for the classic rhyming formula, then the 2007 film as its own telling. The show is episodic around one rescue each, so an occasional skip harms nothing outside the four-parters. Later reruns and the Tennessee Tuxedo crossovers share only the studio, safe as extras outside the main run.
