About Batman Arkham
The Batman Arkham games are action adventures starring Batman, built around free-flow combat, predator stealth and open Gotham maps. The core is Rocksteady's run from Asylum (2009) through City (2011) to Knight (2015), with WB Games Montreal's Origins (2013) as a prequel. New players should start with Asylum: release order is the play order here.
Batman: Arkham Shadow (2024) is a full VR prequel set between Origins and Asylum, playable only on Quest 3 and 3S. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024) is a canon-adjacent co-op shooter set five years after Knight. It divided fans, ended updates in January 2025, and works as an optional last stop.
Good to know
Play the release list first. The story list only moves Origins, Shadow and the VR interlude forward, and it spoils City's ending and Knight's identity reveal for first-timers. Origins plays rougher than the Rocksteady games and Blackgate is skippable.
Suicide Squad's final update reveals the killed Justice League members were Brainiac clones, so Batman survives; Wonder Woman stays dead. No new Arkhamverse game has been announced as of September 2026 and Rocksteady's next project is unconfirmed. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (May 2026) is a separate continuity, not part of this timeline.
