About Battle Arena Toshinden
Battle Arena Toshinden from January 1, 1995 launched PlayStation in the U.S. as a 3D weapons fighter with eight fighters and sidestep movement. Battle Arena Toshinden 2 arrived late 1995 on arcade and PlayStation with new bosses. Battle Arena Toshinden 3 from 1996 closes the original tournament arc on PlayStation.
Toshinden Subaru, sold as Toshinden 4, arrived in 1999 on PlayStation with a new cast. Spinoffs like Nitoshinden, Puzzle Arena and Card Quest stay outside the main list. Edia announced October 27, 2025 that Toshinden 1 to 3 return on modern consoles in 2026 to 2027 for the 30th anniversary.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing, since the story is a thin tournament frame around new fighters. Play 1 to 4 in release order. Remix and URA versions are ports of 1 and 2 with extras, not new stories, so they stay in notes. The Edia re-releases are ports, not remakes, and will not change the order once out. The Wii Toshinden from 2009 is Japan-only and optional.
