About Dead Island
Dead Island strands resort survivors on Banoi in 2011 with melee-focused zombie combat, ending on the prison escape. Riptide from 2013 continues directly on a naval shipwreck as a standalone expansion.
Escape from 2014 retells the outbreak cel-shaded between the first two games. Dead Island 2 from 2023 jumps to HELL-A Los Angeles with a new cast after a long developer relay. Haus and SoLA from 2023 to 2024 expand it, with Ultimate Edition collecting everything. Play in release order throughout.
Good to know
Release order is story order from Banoi through the shipwreck to Los Angeles. The Definitive Edition bundles the first two games with the Retro Revenge bonus. The Epidemic MOBA shut in beta and Survivors mobile shut in 2020, so both stay out. No new game is announced after the 2024 Ultimate Edition. Start with the 2011 original for the combat foundations.
