About Diddy Kong Racing
Diddy Kong Racing from 1997 mixes karts, planes and hovercraft around a hub world with boss races and coin challenges. It set the Rare kart style apart from Mario Kart with adventure structure. The game sold on tracks plus exploration.
Diddy Kong Pilot from 2005 moved to planes on Game Boy Advance, while Racing DS from 2007 remade the N64 game with touch controls and new tracks. No new game has been dated. Play the N64 original first, then Pilot and DS, since the remake assumes the hub and boss rules.
Good to know
Release order matches the best play path, since Pilot and DS reuse the original hub and vehicle mix. The N64 game teaches plane, hover and kart swaps through bosses. DS adds wishes and tracks that only click after that base. Pilot is plane only, so it plays as a side after the main. Start with Racing 1997.
