About Dragon Age
Dragon Age began with Origins (2009) and its Awakening expansion (2010) about the Fifth Blight in Ferelden. Dragon Age II (2011) follows Hawke across a decade in Kirkwall as mage tensions rise. Inquisition (2014) puts the player in charge of closing sky breaches across two nations. The Veilguard (2024) moves north to Tevinter and Antiva with a new team facing ancient elven gods.
BioWare released no story DLC for The Veilguard and shifted focus to the next Mass Effect, but the studio has not retired the franchise. Choices carry between games through save imports and the Dragon Age Keep, though each entry reteaches the world for newcomers.
Good to know
Play in release order, since the mage-templar war and Solas plot build across all four. Origins is the best start for the full arc, while Inquisition works as a modern entry point with the Keep filling earlier choices. The novels and comics expand side characters like Cole and the Inquisitor, but none of them gate the games themselves.
