About Earth Defense Force
Earth Defense Force is Sandlot's B movie bug war, running since the 2003 budget disc Monster Attack. Global Defence Force from 2005 and EDF 2017 from 2006 set the co-op template of ravagers versus mechs. Insect Armageddon from 2011 spun a US side story, while EDF 2025 from 2013 and its 4.1 rebuild scaled the invasion up.
EDF 5 from 2017 rebooted continuity with a new invasion, Iron Rain from 2019 tried a Yuke's take, and World Brothers from 2020 went voxel. EDF 6 from 2022 continued the reboot timeline with time loops. World Brothers 2 from 2024 doubled the cubes. EDF 6.2 is dated 2027 with more enemies. Play in release order.
Good to know
Release order is the play order. EDF 5 rebooted continuity, so the 2017 game works as a second entry point after the early budget discs. The spinoffs share mechanics but no timeline, slotting anywhere around the numbered run. Tactics and mobile entries are skipped as side material. EDF 6.2 is dated 2027 and sits last until it ships.
