About Freespace
Descent Freespace from Volition launched in 1998 as a 3D space sim with Terran Vasudan war turning to Shivans. The Great War runs 30 missions with wingmen and beam cannons plus node jumps. Silent Threat expansion adds mid war sorties with new ships.
Freespace 2 from September 1999 continues with NTF revolt and Sathanas juggernauts across nebulae and Knossos portals. All runs share newtonian dogfights and nebula fog with beau lasers. No third was made, so the 1999 Capella blast stands as the close with source code open.
Good to know
Play Freespace plus Silent Threat before Freespace 2, since Shivans and Bosch arcs carry over directly each war. The second assumes you know the S1 Lucifer fate and Vasudan alliance from Great War briefings and jumps. Joystick helps turns in nebulae with drift. Treat the pair as closed with one Capella star gone at the end.
