About Goemon

Goemon follows the blue haired thief and Ebisumaru across Edo era Japan, mixing platforming, town exploring and giant robot duels. The run starts on Famicom in 1986 and peaks with the two Nintendo 64 games, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Goemon's Great Adventure, before later handheld and PlayStation entries.

Play in release order, starting with the Famicom originals if you like retro difficulty, or jump in at the N64 pair for the friendliest entry. Each game resets its plot around a new villain, so skipping early ones loses mechanics rather than story. Fan translations cover the Japan only Super Famicom games that never left the country.

Good to know

Stories reset every game, so release order is a difficulty curve rather than a plot chain. The N64 pair are the most welcoming starts, while the Famicom and Super Famicom games are harder and partly Japan only. Konami has not released a new Goemon since the 2000s, so this list is complete. The robot Impact battles appear in most entries and play best with series habits in place.
