About LocoRoco

LocoRoco began on PSP in 2006 with tilt world play as yellow blobs eat and split past the Moja. Cocoreccho from 2007 followed as a PS3 interactive screensaver side piece. LocoRoco 2 from 2008 expanded the formula on PSP, and Midnight Carnival from 2009 added focused challenge stages.

Play in release order. Mechanics build gently across the run, so starting at 2 spoils the learning curve. The 2017 PS4 remasters of 1 and 2 plus the 2022 Carnival port are the versions to buy now over original discs.

Good to know

Treat the remasters as replacements rather than sequels, since they hold the same levels with clean visuals for modern screens. Cocoreccho is the outlier as a calm interactive toy, safe anytime after the first game. Japan Studio closed in 2021 with no sequel announced, so the PSP run plus ports closes the series.
