About Mana

The Mana series runs from Final Fantasy Adventure in 1991 through Secret of Mana, Trials of Mana, Legend of Mana and its remakes to Visions of Mana in 2024. Seiken Densetsu's worlds reboot each entry around the Mana Tree, with action combat and ring menus as the constants.

Play in release order. The worlds are standalone, so the order tracks the craft from Game Boy to the 2024 modern entry, with the 2020 Trials remake the easiest door into the 1990s peak. Legend of Mana's structure is the outlier: nonlinear by design, best played once the series grammar is familiar.

Good to know

Visions of Mana from 2024 makes the series active, not retired, so the status stays open for fans going forward. The 1995 Trials original never left Japan until its 2019 collection port, which the remake then superseded. Rise of Mana's mobile shutdown is the one lost entry, skippable without consequence.
