About Mega Man
Mega Man began with the Classic series on NES, six games from 1987 to 1993 plus 7 through 11 reaching 2018. The X series ran eight games from 1993 to 2004 with Zero as co-lead. The Zero series told four games on Game Boy Advance from 2002 to 2005, followed by ZX and ZX Advent. Legends ran two games plus the cancelled third, while Battle Network and Star Force built their own internet-era continuities.
Capcom keeps the franchise alive through Legacy Collections for Classic, X, Zero, Battle Network and Star Force. No new original game has been dated as of 2026, but the company confirms the series stays active with the collections selling steadily.
Good to know
Start with Mega Man 2 or 11 for Classic, X1 for the X branch, or Battle Network 3 for the RPG branch, since each branch opens cleanly. The branches connect loosely across centuries, from Classic to X to Zero to ZX to Legends, but every game reteaches its systems. Legends 2 ends on a cliffhanger its cancelled sequel never resolved, so expect that thread to dangle.
