About Phantasy Star
Phantasy Star starts in 1987 with Alis on a sci-fi quest across three planets. Phantasy Star II from 1989 jumps a thousand years forward, III splits into branching generations, and IV from 1993 closes the Algol story with Chaz and Alys.
Phantasy Star Online from 2000 reboots as online dungeon runs on Ragol, Universe from 2006 adds a new offline story with Ethan, and Online 2 from 2012 builds years of live episodes. New Genesis from 2021 refreshes Online 2 combat on Halpha. The classic and online branches share names but not plot.
Good to know
Play I through IV in order for the classic story, since III’s endings feed IV’s history. Treat Online, Universe, Online 2 and New Genesis as separate starts with their own tutorials. Online 2’s long episode list can be taken in release order inside itself. No new offline entry had been dated as of September 2026, so New Genesis stands as the live branch.
