About Pikmin
Pikmin spans four console games: Pikmin (2001), Pikmin 2 (2004), Pikmin 3 (2013) and Pikmin 4 (2023). The stories connect loosely through Olimar and Hocotate Freight, but each game re-teaches its systems. Release order is the recommended play order.
Newcomers should start with Pikmin 4. It has the gentlest learning curve, the Oatchi pup companion, and reworked caves. The Pikmin 1+2 HD ports on Switch are the current versions of the first two if you continue.

Hey! Pikmin (3DS, 2017, developed by Arzest) is a 2D side-scrolling spinoff and safe to skip; it sits outside the main list. Pikmin 3 Deluxe (Switch, 2020) is the current version of Pikmin 3, and Pikmin 1+2 (Switch, 2023) are the current versions of the first two. Pikmin Bloom (mobile, 2021) is a walking app, not a mainline game. Producer Takashi Tezuka said in 2023 the team would try not to keep fans waiting so long for a fifth game, but no Pikmin 5 has been announced. A Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4 with a Dandori Academy mode was announced for November 12, 2026.
