About Psychonauts
Psychonauts began with Double Fine in 2005 about acrobat Raz joining the psychic camp to stop Oleander. Rhombus of Ruin (2017) bridges in VR with Raz rescuing Truman from the Rhombus. Psychonauts 2 (2021) moves to the Motherlobe headquarters around the Maligula past and the internship program.
Tim Schafer closed Raz's family arc in the sequel with the Aquato curse resolved, and no third game has been dated as of 2026. The mind-level design stays the draw across every entry, with each brain staging its owner's trauma as architecture.
Good to know
Play Psychonauts first, then Rhombus of Ruin if VR is available, then Psychonauts 2, since the Truman rescue and the family reveals assume the run. Rhombus is short and skippable without losing the sequel, which recaps its setup quickly. The milkman and lungfish levels reward full exploration rather than rushing exits.
