About RuneScape
RuneScape launched January 2001 in Gielinor with Devious Minds and Dragon Slayer quest lines. HD overhaul arrived in 2008 with fullscreen and bloom, then RuneScape 3 launched July 2013 with HTML5 and Divination to level ninety nine plus.
Old School RuneScape forked February 2013 from 2007 backup with community polls for raids and sailing. Both versions run live free with membership gating quests. Play Old School first for classic grind and raids, then RuneScape 3 for modern lore and Necromancy. The game stays live with yearly quests.
Good to know
Release order tracks client growth from Java to HTML5 without blocking newcomers. Start with Old School for 2007 rules and poll locked raids that teach grinding and quest points. Add RuneScape 3 for full quest cape and lore finale among the pair. The series stays ongoing with both clients updated weekly.
