About Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves launched March 20, 2018 on PC and Xbox One from Rare with shared sloops. Steam followed June 2020, Series optimized March 2024, and PS5 April 30, 2024 with cross play and servers. Arena closed March 2022 for adventure focus with shanties.
Seasons run from January 2021 with Tall Tales like Pirates Life. Safer Seas PvE came December 2023, Season 19 March 2026, and Season 20 Custom Seas June 18, 2026. Rare reaffirmed in July 2025 after layoffs. Play base, then seasons in release order.
Good to know
Release order is the only path across live seas. Base sets sloop sailing rules that seasons extend with reapers and hourglass voyages for crews. Arena sits closed and stays out for balance. Season 20 is the latest with custom servers and safe harbors. Monthly notes continue with no sequel dated for crews.
