About The Division

The Division from Massive Entertainment starts in New York after a virus spreads on Black Friday, with Sleeper agents called to save the city. It launched March 8, 2016 with Underground, Survival and Last Stand expansions through 2017. The Division 2 launched March 15, 2019 and moves to Washington six months after the first game, with Warlords of New York in 2020 and Battle for Brooklyn in 2025.

Play in release order. The second game recaps the key events, but the winter New York maps hit harder if you have seen the first outbreak. A third game and a Netflix film with Jake Gyllenhaal are in development.

Good to know

There is no separate chronological order worth listing since release order matches story order. The first game is online only and needs servers, and Ubisoft delisted some older editions in 2026, so buy the Definitive Edition if you want all DLC in one pack. Division 2 seasons like Red Horizon from August 2026 add story after the main campaigns. Start with Division 1 on sale, then move to Division 2.
