About Before trilogy
Richard Linklater filmed Jesse and Céline at nine-year intervals, letting Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy age on screen from Vienna to Paris to Greece.
Each film plays out in close to real time, and release order is the only order that makes sense.
Good to know
Delpy said in 2021 that the three of them rejected the ideas raised for a fourth film, though Linklater stays open to one with the right story. Jesse and Céline also cameo in Linklater's animated Waking Life (2001).
