About Claude Lelouch
Claude Lelouch broke through with A Man and a Woman in 1966, winner of the Palme dOr and two Academy Awards. Live for Life followed in 1967, The Crook in 1970, and The Adventure Is the Adventure in 1972 with its roguish crime comedy tone. Happy New Year arrived in 1973 and And Now My Love in 1974, widening his canvas from couples to generations.
Bolero followed in 1981 as a large musical fresco across families and countries. Les Miserables arrived in 1995 as his Second World War variation on Victor Hugo, winning the Golden Globe for foreign film. The Best Years of a Life closed this selection in 2019 by revisiting his 1966 lovers in old age. Watch these nine in release order.
Good to know
These films have no shared continuity apart from direct sequels to A Man and a Woman, so there is no puzzle timeline here. Release order keeps the callbacks clear, especially the 1986 twenty years later film and the 2019 revisit included in this guide. Lelouch was born in 1937 and remains active, with Finalement released in 2024, so future films would extend this list at the end.
