About Claude Sautet
Claude Sautet found his footing with Class All Risks in 1960, a tight gangster film with Lino Ventura. The Things of Life followed in 1970 with Michel Piccoli and Romy Schneider, then Max and the Junkmen in 1971 and Cesar and Rosalie in 1972, his bittersweet love triangle at peak form. Vincent, Francois, Paul and the Others arrived in 1974 as a weekend friends portrait.
A Simple Story followed in 1978 with Schneider facing a hard personal choice. After a quieter decade, A Heart in Winter arrived in 1992 as a restrained music world triangle, and Nelly and Monsieur Arnaud closed this selection in 1995 as a late masterwork on work and reserve. Good to know
These are independent dramas with no shared timeline, so no chronological reshuffle is needed. Release order reveals how Sautet settled into his patient cafe and apartment style after the early crime films. Romy Schneider appears across the middle titles, but she plays different people each time. Sautet died in 2000, so this eight film selection is closed and complete.
