About Crouching Tiger
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon from 2000 follows Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien chasing the stolen Green Destiny with Jen's rebellion inside. Ang Lee's film won 4 Oscars and earned about 214 million on 17 million. Sword of Destiny from February 2016 on Netflix brings Michelle Yeoh back 18 years later against Hades Dai with Wei Fang and Snow Vase.
Yuen Woo-ping directed the sequel from Wang Dulu's Iron Knight novel with English dialogue. Reviews found it a thinner copy of the original. The two films form a direct pair, so release order matches the sword's journey.
Good to know
Watch the 2000 film before the 2016 sequel, since Shu Lien's grief assumes the original ending directly. The sequel's English delivery divides fans, so expect a tone shift in dialogue. Yeoh carries both films as the throughline throughout. No third film has been announced, so Sword of Destiny is the endpoint.
