About Detective Dee
Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame from 2010 follows Dee solving Buddha statue burnings for Empress Wu across a Tang mystery. Young Detective Dee from 2013 jumps back as a prequel for the sea dragon case with Mark Chao in the lead.
The Four Heavenly Kings from 2018 continues the prequel run with the demon dragon plot and masked warriors. Andy Lau leads the original while Chao fronts the prequels with Carina Lau as Wu. Watch in release order since the prequels assume Dee exile. Tsui Hark closed the run in 2018 with no fourth dated.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for Detective Dee worth listing for first viewing, since release order gives the exile weight before the prequels. The two prequels sit earlier in story time but spoil less in release spot. Watch Phantom Flame first, then the two prequels in order for the full arc.
