About National Treasure
Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) hunts Templar gold in National Treasure (2004) and chases the Book of Secrets in National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007). Both films were directed by Jon Turteltaub and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for Disney.
National Treasure: Edge of History (Disney+, 10 episodes, December 14, 2022 to February 8, 2023) follows Jess Valenzuela with cameos from Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel. Disney+ cancelled it in April 2023 after one season. A third Cage film has a Disney approved script as of August 2026 but no shoot or date.
Good to know
Turteltaub called the third film Hollywood real on the National Treasure Hunt podcast August 21, 2026 in Philadelphia. He said the script is liked by him and Disney and the aim is to bring back the main cast. Until cameras roll, treat it as development, not a date. Edge of History is set about 20 years after the films, so release order matches story order.
