About American Gods
American Gods follows ex-con Shadow Moon into the war between Old Gods like Mr. Wednesday and the New Gods of media and technology, adapted from Neil Gaiman's novel for Starz. Bryan Fuller and Michael Green ran a visually lavish eight-episode first season from April 2017.
Showrunner turmoil reshaped both follow-ups: Jesse Alexander's eight-episode second season in 2019 and Charles Eglee's ten-episode third in 2021. Starz cancelled the show there, leaving the novel unfinished on screen. Watch the three seasons in order. The cast carries the story even as the behind-camera vision changes twice.
Good to know
Air order is the only order. The seasons continue one road trip directly, and the showrunner changes explain the tonal shifts better than any reordering could. New viewers should know the ending is abrupt: season three was not designed as a finale, and no revival or film has materialized. Read the novel afterward for the actual conclusion.
