About Djibril Diop Mambety
Djibril Diop Mambety made few films with vast influence. Badou Boy from 1970 chases a Dakar urchin Chaplin style and won at Carthage. Touki Bouki from 1973 sends Mory and Anta toward Paris on a zebu skull bike and won critics at Cannes plus Moscow jury.
Twenty years passed before Hyenas from 1992 adapts Durrenmatt Visit as a rich woman buys a village death. Le Franc from 1994 plays a lottery ticket odyssey, La Petite Vendeuse de Soleil from 1999 closes the planned Tales of Little People. Mambety died of lung cancer in Paris in 1998 at 53.

Watch in release order. Touki Bouki sits high in Sight and Sound polls and rewards Godard familiarity. Hyenas continues its money satire twenty years on. The final two form an unfinished little people trilogy. Contras City short from 1968 opens the run for completists. Start with Touki Bouki, then Hyenas.
