About Domee Shi
Domee Shi won the short Oscar with Bao in 2018 about a dumpling son craving love. Turning Red followed in 2022 with Mei turning panda in Toronto whenever emotions spike high. Elio arrived in 2025 with a boy beamed into alien talks across the galaxy.
The works share Toronto homes, food love and parent fights but no plot links at all. Bao runs eight minutes, so pair it before Turning Red as a warm up. Release order shows her Pixar path from boards to director chair intact and bright. Elio brings the council of aliens while Mei brings the boy band, so both crowds get a favorite.

Watch Bao, then Turning Red, then Elio in that line always. Turning Red first gives the family grammar for Elio after. Elio suits space nights while Bao fits before either feature well.
