About Dune
Frank Herbert's Dune has been filmed three separate times, so the question is which version to start with rather than what happens next. David Lynch made the 1984 film, the Sci-Fi Channel adapted Dune in 2000 and Children of Dune in 2003, and Denis Villeneuve rebooted the story with Part One in 2021 and Part Two in 2024.
Villeneuve closes his trilogy with Part Three on December 18, 2026, adapting Dune Messiah with Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya returning. A Max prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, premiered in 2024 and is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides.
Good to know
New viewers should start with Villeneuve's Part One and Part Two, then watch Part Three on release, since that trilogy is now the standard telling. The Lynch film and the Sci-Fi miniseries cover the same ground with older effects and different cuts, so treat them as alternates. Prophecy is a distant prequel and can be watched any time after Part One.
