About Amazing Stories
Amazing Stories began on NBC in September 1985 as Steven Spielberg's weekly fantasy hour. Season one runs twelve episodes including The Mission and Mummy Daddy, with directors like Spielberg, Scorsese and Zemeckis. Season two from 1986 adds twelve more to March 1987, closing after 24 total.
Apple revived the title in March 2020 for five new tales on Apple TV Plus, including The Cellar and The Rift with new casts. The revival keeps the standalone format but updates effects and pacing. Watch the original run first for the practical effects charm, then the revival as a separate set.
Good to know
There is no plot order because no episode connects to another. Broadcast order works best for the original since NBC front loaded star directors. The 2020 revival shares only the title and anthology idea, so it fits anywhere after the original. Skip freely if an episode premise leaves you cold. The Ghost Train pilot remains the clearest statement of what Spielberg wanted the show to be.
