About The Exorcist
The Exorcist centers on Regan MacNeil and the priests called to help her in 1973. Exorcist II follows Regan years later, while The Exorcist III follows detective Kinderman from the first film and skips the second. The two mid-2000s prequels both show young Father Merrin in Africa, since Dominion and The Beginning are two cuts of the same shoot with different directors.
Believer from 2023 returns to the original with Ellen Burstyn back as Chris MacNeil. The Mike Flanagan film dated March 12, 2027 is a new story in the same world and not a Believer sequel, so release order stays the cleanest path with a separate chronological option below.

Start with the 1973 original, then decide how much you want. Part III is the direct follow-up most fans keep, while Part II splits opinion and can be skipped without losing the thread. Watch only one of the two prequels on a first pass since they tell the same Merrin story twice, with Dominion closer to the first script. Believer and the 2027 film stand apart from the older sequels, so treat them as fresh entries.
