About The Grinch
The Grinch retells Seuss's 1957 book about Christmas theft and heart growth, separately in each version. The 1966 TV special runs twenty-six minutes with Karloff narrating and remains the definitive telling.
The 2000 live-action film expands Whoville with Carrey's Grinch, and the 2018 Illumination version retells it in CGI with Cumberbatch. Two 70s and 80s specials branch only from the 1966 special. Each version stands alone, so release order is simply the tour from 1966. A 2000 sequel is discussed but undated.
Good to know
The 1966, 2000 and 2018 versions each tell the same book story from scratch with no continuity between them. Watch in release order or start with whichever style suits the viewer. The 1977 and 1982 specials follow only the 1966 special's continuity. Talk of a 2000-film sequel with Carrey returning has no studio date, so it stays in the notes.
