About Hitman (films)
Hitman has two films that reboot each other: Hitman (2007) with Timothy Olyphant as a 47 betrayed by the Agency, and Hitman: Agent 47 (2015) with Rupert Friend in an origin-tinged retelling. Both borrow the games' barcode, suits and fiber-wire iconography while inventing their own plots.
Neither film needs the other or the games: pick either as a standalone action night, or watch in release order to see the two attempts side by side. The 2007 film's train and hotel sequences are its highlights; the 2015 film leans into engineered-superhuman lore. Neither connects to a series, and no third film has been announced.
Good to know
Both films underperformed relative to the games' fame, which is why the property migrated to television development instead of a third film. The games' actual storylines (particularly the World of Assassination trilogy) are richer than either film and need no viewing to enjoy the movies. Treat each film as an alternate take on 47 rather than chapters. The Hulu television project has been discussed without a premiere date.
