About Indiana Jones
Indiana Jones is Lucasfilm's adventure series starring Harrison Ford as the archaeologist who keeps stumbling into ancient traps. Five films span 1981 to 2023, from Raiders of the Lost Ark to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which released June 30, 2023 and closed Ford's run as Indy. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, a prequel series, aired from 1992 to 1996.
The timeline has one real wrinkle. Temple of Doom is a prequel set in 1935, a year before Raiders, so story order starts there. Last Crusade opens with a 1912 prologue before settling into 1938, and Dial of Destiny begins in 1944 before its main story in 1969. Everything else lines up with release order.
Good to know
Release order is the recommended first watch; the chronological list only moves Temple of Doom ahead of Raiders and puts Young Indiana Jones up front. That series is optional and uneven, and its episodes were later recut into twelve chronological TV movies sold as The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones. No film or series past Dial of Destiny has been announced as of September 2026.
