About Invisible Man
The Invisible Man from 1933 stars Claude Rains as Griffin with James Whale directing from H. G. Wells. The Invisible Man Returns from 1940 and The Invisible Woman from 1940 keep the formula with new users of the formula. Invisible Agent from 1942 turns it into wartime spy fare.
Hollow Man from 2000 retells the idea as lab horror with Kevin Bacon, while The Invisible Man from 2020 with Elisabeth Moss resets it as a gaslight thriller. The 2020 film was planned to seed a new Universal run, so it plays as a fresh start rather than a sequel to the 1930s run.
Good to know
Watch the 1933 film first, then take the 1940s sequels as optional period extras. Hollow Man and the 2020 film each stand alone and fit anywhere after the original. Do not link them into one story since the serum rules change each time. A follow up to the 2020 film has been discussed but had no date as of September 2026.
