About Jaws
Jaws from 1975 puts Chief Brody, Quint and Hooper on a boat after a great white, and invented the summer blockbuster along the way. Jaws 2 from 1978 brings Brody back against a second Amity shark with his sons older. Jaws 3-D from 1983 moves the Brody sons to a Florida SeaWorld park with a thirty-five-foot shark in the tanks.
Jaws: The Revenge from 1987 closes the run with Ellen Brody in the Bahamas convinced a shark is hunting her family, with Michael Caine along for the ride. None of the sequels involved Spielberg, and each scales down from the original. The 1975 film got a 50th anniversary theatrical re-release in August 2025, which is the version to catch on a big screen.
Good to know
Release order is story order, so one list covers it. Jaws 2 follows Brody directly, 3-D follows his sons grown up, and Revenge follows Ellen after Sean's death. Quality drops steeply after the original, so treat the sequels as a curiosity run rather than required viewing. The first film stands fully alone, and nothing after 1987 has been announced, which keeps this list complete.
