About John Hughes

John Hughes directed Sixteen Candles in 1984, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science in 1985, Ferris Bueller's Day Off in 1986 and Planes, Trains and Automobiles in 1987.

She's Having a Baby arrived in 1988, Uncle Buck in 1989 and Curly Sue in 1991. Watch in release order. The Chicago teen run shares schools but no continuity, with the adult comedies closing the directing run. Ringwald, Hall and Cryer carry the teen years with Candy driving the adult turn. The Shermer, Illinois setting never changes.

Good to know

There is no shared continuity, so no chronological order exists. Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller and Planes, Trains and Automobiles make the clearest core. The run closed with Curly Sue in 1991, eighteen years before Hughes died in 2009. His Home Alone and Beethoven writing work sits outside directing.
