About Ken Hughes

Ken Hughes broke through with The Trials of Oscar Wilde in 1960, starring Peter Finch in a courtroom drama he later called his own favorite. The Small World of Sammy Lee followed in 1963 on a Soho gambler, then Of Human Bondage in 1964 with Laurence Harvey and Kim Novak. Casino Royale arrived in 1967 as a sprawling Bond spoof with several directors credited.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang came in 1968 from the Ian Fleming novel, scripted with Roald Dahl for producer Albert Broccoli, with Dick Van Dyke and songs by the Sherman Brothers. Cromwell closed the run in 1970 with Richard Harris and Alec Guinness. Hughes died in 2001, so this run is closed. Watch in release order, since the scale grows with each step.

Good to know

These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to untangle. Casino Royale from 1967 is a spoof with multiple directors, and is listed here for Hughes sections only. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang runs long at about 145 minutes, so plan for the full musical cut. Cromwell takes wide liberties with history. The run is complete. Hughes died in April 2001.
