About Kick-Ass
Kick-Ass from 2010 follows Dave Lizewski, a comics fan with no powers who puts on a wetsuit and fights crime anyway, crossing paths with Big Daddy and Hit-Girl. Directed by Matthew Vaughn from Mark Millar's comic, it revived the indie superhero film and made Chloe Grace Moretz a star.
Kick-Ass 2 arrived in 2013 with Dave joining Justice Forever against the newly villainous Motherfucker. Vaughn then announced a secretly filmed reboot entry, Stuntnuts, plus two follow-ups forming a new trilogy, none yet released. Watch the two released films in order. The reboot starts fresh once it lands.
Good to know
Release order is story order for the two Dave Lizewski films. The announced Stuntnuts trilogy reportedly starts over with new characters, so it will slot after the originals rather than between them. Readers of the comics should know the films soften Dave's ending considerably. Track the reboot separately until it has a release date.
