About King Kong
King Kong starts with the 1933 RKO original of Ann Darrow carried up the Empire State Building, followed the same year by Son of Kong with Denham returning to the island. The 1976 remake moves the story to the World Trade Center with Lives continuing it in 1986.
The 2005 Jackson remake retells the 1933 story standalone, while Skull Island from 2017 reboots Kong into the MonsterVerse leading to Godzilla vs. Kong and The New Empire. Toho's 60s films and the animated series sit in separate continuities. Group by era: 1933 pair, 1976 pair, 2005, then MonsterVerse in order.
Good to know
There is no single Kong timeline, since each era reboots the ape from scratch. The MonsterVerse runs Skull Island in the 1970s, then Godzilla vs. Kong, then The New Empire in release order. Toho's Versus and Escapes films plus the animated shows are separate versions for completists. A new MonsterVerse entry is in development with no Kong-solo date. Start with 1933 or jump to Skull Island for the modern line.
