About Lake Placid
Lake Placid started in 1999 as a theatrical creature feature about a giant crocodile in Maine, with Bill Pullman and Bridget Fonda. Syfy continued it as TV movies: Lake Placid 2 in 2007, Lake Placid 3 in 2010 and The Final Chapter in 2012, all with new casts and bigger broods.
Lake Placid vs Anaconda arrived in 2015 as a crossover sequel to both series. Legacy in 2018 ignores parts 2 through 5 and acts as a direct sequel to 1999. No sequel has been announced since 2018, and Sony lists the series as inactive as of September 2026.
Good to know
Watch parts 1 through 5 in release order for the one loose timeline. Legacy branches off the 1999 film, so treat it as an alternate part 2 rather than a finale. The Anaconda crossover needs no homework from the snake series beyond knowing giant snakes exist. Start with 1999 either way. It is the only entry with a real budget.
