About Maclean Rogers
Maclean Rogers (1899 to 1962) directed low budget British comedies, mysteries and musicals from 1929 to 1960. This pick starts with Old Mother Riley Joins Up from 1940, then jumps to Calling Paul Temple from 1948 for his crime side. Down Among the Z Men from 1952 is the center, the only film with all four Goons and Peter Sellers in his screen debut.
Forces Sweetheart from 1953 keeps the service comedy going, Not Wanted on Voyage from 1957 adds a farce at sea, and Just Joe from 1960 closes his career. The stories do not connect, so release order shows his steady studio pace.
Good to know
Rogers made more than 40 features, so these six are an entry point rather than every credit. Release order is the same as any story order because each film is standalone. He died on January 4, 1962 in Harefield, so the run is closed and earlier sources that guessed 1969 are wrong. Start with the two wartime titles, then play the Goons film.
