About Madagascar
Madagascar follows zoo animals Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria after they wash up on Madagascar and then try to get home. Escape 2 Africa strands them in Kenya, Europe Most Wanted hides them in a traveling circus, and Penguins of Madagascar gives the penguin crew its own globe hopping spy story.
A fourth main film was dated for 2018 but left the schedule during the DreamWorks restructuring and never returned. The shorts Christmas Caper and Madly Madagascar plus the series Penguins of Madagascar and All Hail King Julien are side stories, so the four films play straight through on their own.

Release order matches story order, so watch the three main films first and take Penguins last as a spin-off. The penguin film opens with a 1960s origin before jumping forward, but it was built to stand alone. Skip the series on a first pass unless kids want more, since none of it changes the film plot.
