About Mike Hodges

Mike Hodges came from hard hitting British television and made his feature debut with Get Carter in 1971, a cold Newcastle revenge story with Michael Caine. Pulp in 1972 reteamed them for a comic crime story set around a pulp writer in Malta. The Terminal Man in 1974 adapts Michael Crichton as a clinical science fiction thriller about mind control surgery.

Flash Gordon in 1980 looks like a swerve, a bright space opera made with full studio craft. A Prayer for the Dying in 1987 returns to IRA thriller ground, then Croupier in 1998 revived his career as a quiet gambling noir with Clive Owen. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead in 2003 closes the run as a London revenge piece that answers Get Carter. Watch in release order, since the films do not connect and the gaps make the comebacks legible.

Good to know

These are separate stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order and release order is the viewing order. Lighter studio jobs such as Morons from Outer Space are left out of this starter set to keep the crime thread clear. Black Rainbow from 1989 is the natural next watch for completists. Hodges died in 2022, so this run is complete and no new entries are expected.
