About Nag Ashwin
Nag Ashwin debuted with Yevade Subramanyam, released March 21, 2015, starring Nani as a professional on a journey of self-discovery. It filmed around Everest Base Camp, a first for an Indian film, and won him the Nandi Award for Best Debut Director. He followed it with Mahanati, released May 9, 2018, with Keerthy Suresh as actress Savitri. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.
His third feature, Kalki 2898 AD, released June 27, 2024, stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone in a mythological sci-fi story set 6,000 years after the Kurukshetra war. It earned over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide and launched the Kalki Cinematic Universe. The sequel, Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, has filmed part of its footage, but it has no release date yet.
Good to know
These three features are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so release order is the full order and there is no separate chronological list worth maintaining. Watch Mahanati before Kalki to see Ashwin move from intimate biopic to large-scale world building. His Netflix anthology segment xLife in Pitta Kathalu (2021) and his producer credit on Jathi Ratnalu (2021) sit outside this feature-director list.
